Good card
Good card, Good performance. There is little difference between pcie 2.0 and 3.0 for if you're connecting hard drives to a pcie x1 / x4 slot. If you're plugging in SSD's, go for a card with pcie 3.0 for a very small performance boost.Best performance is always direct into a sata3 6gbps slot on the motherboard though. But these are great for plugging in normal hard drives. SSD's are really fast with cards like this too, but have a greater performance increase when plugged direct into the motherboard in my experience. So its best to just use normal hard drives with these imo unless your only remaining slots on the mobo are sata 2.0, in which case I would probably go with the pcie card.

Works with UNRAID!
I needed SATA3 expansion card for my UNRAID server to have a bit more drives in my "NAS". This one works out of the box. Just plugged into my motherboard, BIOS detected it without any problems and UNRAID (special linux distribution) OS recognizes it right away. That means 4 more SATA ports for very reasonable price --> exactly what a home user needs.

Simple and just works
I purchased this four port sata adaptor to allow me to use an older intel motherboard for my htpc/server.The motherboard only has 4 sata ports and I have several hard drives, dvd drive and ssd for a boot drive. This adaptor does exactly what I needed it for. After all the ports on the motherboard were used up, this adaptor connected up to 2 more 3TB drives. Plus it's very small, so it barely covers one of the fans on the graphics card.I've had it in my htpc/server for a few weeks now and it's working perfectly, with no slow down at all.

Add SATA ports easily to PCIe motherboard
I needed to add a couple more drives than my motherboard supports. I'd had something similar before but it was PCI only and the new motherboard only has PCIe slots. This does the job well. It doesn't need drivers if you only need to use two of the ports.(I temporarily needed to use a third and needed to install the drivers. I don't any more have a CD-ROM drive so couldn't use the enclosed CD and couldn't find them online, but Glotrends support responded to a request and emailed me the driver within a couple of hours, which was impressive.)

Great card, great price for a self built NAS
I bought this for a self build NAS.My motherboard was an ITX Celeron board with only 2 data ports (bit rubbish for a NAS) so I added this and another 2 port data card. I now have 8 fully functioning hard drives in a RAID 10 using software RAID. All runs faultlessly and this card helped make that possible. If you need to add more SATA ports for a reasonable price, you could do a lot worse than this one.

Don't cheap out - You'll regret doing so
Caused no end of issues on my primary workstation; Blue screens and boot loops aren't particularly welcome when you have development deadlines to meet...Despite the blurb, this most definitely requires a driver in order for it to detect attached devices correctly (specifically targeting the ASM106X chipset,) but it is hit and miss as to whether the connected device will actually function or not.If you want to use this card in a professional setup, my advice would be to not cheap-out, and straight up avoid this card.

Works but needs drivers which aren't supplied
Mini PCI-E slot card works fine in my Windows Home Server V1 machine. However the card comes without drivers and WHS V1 doesn't recognise it. My first attempt to post this review included a link to where I found drivers, but that was blocked for not adhering to Amazon's guidelines. So you'll have to find them yourself.
