it would have been a lot easier to use. I had to use a lot of tape to hold it in place and a pencil to draw the outline on the pot first before painting, the painting would also have been easier. Having said that once it was on it looked great. Yes, if it was used on a flat surface it would have been a lot easier but I wanted it on a terracotta pot and pots are mostly roundDepending upon what you want to stencil, if like me you want to decorate a pot, you need a great deal of patience. I think on a flat surface, assuming the tape is holding it in place, you can paint straight over the stencil onto the surface you are decorating, but I'm very happy with the result.
