Buy Local
I love Cafe 1820, having purchased it for between $2.00-$3.00 at every local store in Costa Rica when I am there. While visiting the USA I have purchased Cafe 1820 numerous times through Amazon. After my most recent purchase jumped from $9.00 to $11.99 and took 12 days to get to me, I am done with ordering Cafe 1820 while in the US. I highly recommend Cafe 1820 to you when you visit Costa Rica. I have tried all the local brands and I prefer Cafe 1820 even though it is one of the least expensive coffees in Costa Rica. For me it is never bitter, and I brew it strong, it has a pleasant after taste (just like coffee) and is consistent with every bag I buy. I only gave it 3 stars because of the high price, and the potentially slow delivery. The coffee itself is great

Not horrible, but not a light roast.
This is a dark medium roast coffee. I don't know why they advertise it as a light roast, but when I opened it and looked at the grounds which were darker than dark chocolate, I knew I was getting a 2nd crack roast. There is a recent trend of marketing dark medium roast coffees as light roast and it really needs to stop. I can't say this coffee tastes bad for a medium dark coffee, but that's not what I purchased. Either learn to roast your beans correctly, or else learn to label your product correctly. There's no excuse for this.If I went to a restaurant and ordered a rare steak and got some hard charcoal half burned mess, I'd immediately send it back. Kind of hard to do that with Amazon eats and drinks, but something needs to happen in regards to the mislabeling of coffee products.Again, decent coffee if I had ordered a medium dark roast.BUT NOT A LIGHT ROAST!Don't buy this product if you're looking for a light roast coffee.

Over-roasted, mild flavor, taste like medium Roast Startbucks . Inconsistent brewing flavor
This coffee would vary in flavor in the bag from OUTSTANDING flavor to bitter and over-roasted taste and lack of flavor. I think it was a good coffee overall, but not something i would go back and buy again. Please note i have been to suppliers of starbucks coffee and have tasted coffee that is not roasted to starbucks specifications. And this one tastes like starbuck specs. If you are okay with that, then fine. For the price it is fair... I am willing to pay 50-100% more for a better coffee, else i rather drink mcdonalds coffee over this one (assuming same price per ounce). There are better beans out there for only 25% more in cost and you get what you pay for in beans/life.

Meh
I tried this coffee because someone in a thread said it was one of the smoothest being costa rican. Was it smooth? yeah, if you properly measure things out. The problem is, the flavor profile is so thin it doesnt taste like anything but bones-coffee. Ever see a coffee that says "full bodied" , "fruity" or "citrus", "caramel".. this bag should say, "coffee" with hints of "air". This gets the job done though, caffeine wise. 3 Stars BABY. Not Bad, some people might like it if they like something less aromatic and simple.

Best Coffee Ever
Wonderful coffee! This coffee is a little on the high end, but I'm worth it. If coffee is an important part of your day, it should be exquisite. People cringe when I tell them I drink my coffee black. When you have good coffee, you don't need creamer, sugar, flavors.... (Hint: they don't flavor the high quality coffees.) I started drinking black coffee (1820 wonderful coffee) because as long as all I'm having is black coffee, I'm still fasting. My fast lasts until later in the morning or lunch time, so my body can still be in "repair" mode, not "digest" mode. That's my reason for drinking it black. Because I can. You might have your own reasons. But this really is good coffee. I don't even think about buying coffee at the "to go" coffee shops. (You know the ones.) Too much $ for coffee that's not as good as this, and has way too many calories. Dessert at 7 am? No thanks! 1820 before I leave in the a.m. and I'm good to go for the day. Highly recommend. :-)

BIB BAG Coffee Beans :)
BIG BAG of coffee beans. :) I am drinking a cup right now. Second time this week I used in coffee maker and still impressed with taste and quality.I buy beans locally from vendors at Farmer's Market & coffee shops. I buy directly from various coffee bean suppliers on their websites. I prefer fair trade, organic etc but I am not a coffee snob and will not only drink one brand or use beans coming from only one source. I read reviews and generally make decisions from those. Reviewers said good things about this brand "Cafe 1820 whole bean from Costa Rica" and I totally agree. Thanks for the heads up...I recommend 1820 too...if you enjoy a good cup of coffee (whatever you use to make it with) I think you might like this.

Most Excellent Coffee
When I opened the bag, I though OH NO.. this stuff has a hint of that dirt smell. I was pretty bummered out at that point. Then I made a pot coffee. OH MY GOODNESS. This stuff is terrific! Absolutely no dirt taste at all. It smelled like it was going to be heavy but the coffee is medium to light bodied. If you don't like your coffee with lots of odd flavors, just some of the best tasting coffee ever, try this. If you are a dark or french roast type of person, this probably won't do. I love it... and after I go through the other 10 bags of beans I bought, this will be at the top of the list to try again.
