Works Great
I had read a LOT of reviews about distillers, not to let them run out of water. I set a timer for about 3-1/2 hrs and shut it off. I have had a couple times that it boiled out, and left some burnt crap on the bottom. However, a 30 min soak with white vinegar, takes care of that. That is not a fault of the distiller, so much as the crap in your water. So far, I make a batch or 2 every day for our humidifier and it works flawless. I will say, as others have stated, the power button is useless. Ours doesn't work, but I just pull the plug. That really isn't an issue for me. I don't drink distilled water, so can't comment on the taste. However, since I stop this before it boils dry, I can say that I can smell the calcium in the remaining water in the reservoir. A LOT. So it definitely works at removing crud from the water. Also, our humidifier hasn't needed cleaning since I have been using this distiller. I love it and saved $25-$30 over other more expensive ones.

Great buy
The media could not be loaded. There are a bunch of these that all look pretty similar, and I had a Mophorn version last. This Haofst one, even though it looks nearly identical, is a definite improvement. It’s just as easy to use—I just clean after each cycle with some citric acid to get rid of the limey deposits, change out the carbon filter monthly, and like every 3 months clean the coils. It however distills about an hour slower and cooler, which is actually good, it drastically improves the flavor when it doesn’t absolutely cremate the tail end. Also this model just feels much sturdier. It should be noted that I also use a timer so that it doesn’t just run until it shuts itself off, and I do that for flavor improvement, but with this model I’m not sure it’s even necessary. Another note: it’s “full” line of the reservoir is neither 4 L nor a gallon as advertised, it’s a bit shy of a gallon. I fill it with 4 L because I was promised 4 L capacity, and it doesn’t seem to have an impact doing that.Edit, 2020-12-11: Fan assembly accidentally got dropped and now when the fan runs, if it does, it very faintly whines. The motor may have gotten damages. So try not to drop it.

Works well, though I do have concerns after using for 6 months
This unit appeared to be well made when I received it, and it was easy to set up and use. I generally make one gallon of distilled water a day, so have made about 180 gallons so far. I have replaced the charcoal filter twice during this time. My concern at present is that the interior of the unit, which is said to be made of stainless steel, has stains and scale buildup that seem impossible to remove, even though I clean the interior before each use. I have a very similar style distiller at my summer cottage, purchased at Sears several years ago, which I use to distill lake water into drinking water, and the interior of that unit has always cleaned up nicely using dish soap and a ScotchBrite scouring pad, just like I clean my stainless steel sink with, so I'm wondering what's going on with the HaoFest. I tried their recommended method of cleaning using granules that came with the unit in a plastic container, but that didn't work very well and I was concerned about using the granules because their ingredients are not listed on the container. When you're making drinking water, you want to know, and even though I rinsed well afterwards I still felt concerned about possible residual toxicity. When nothing else worked at cleaning the interior, I also tried a steel wool Brillo pad once, but even that had very little effect upon the scale, and that seems very strange to me. The whole idea of stainless steel is to prevent staining and scale buildup.

Defective machine
Within 3 months of purchase, the ‘stainless steel’ water chamber began to show rust on its upper edges. Within 6 months, it stopped working entirely, and what appears to be evidence of excessive heat showed up around the edge of the power button, which apparently failed. I messaged the company two days ago, and have not heard from them. I have now contacted Amazon, which is resolving the issue, but I do not recommend this product.

Works well. Fan a little noisy.
Once you process 6-8 gallons, the stainless tank will show ‘debris’ of salt, iron, etc…in the tank BUT DON’T WORRY! Make another 6-8 gallons and then clean. I didn’t need the citric cleaner, just washed with warm water and soap and good to go. Stainless tank bottom may rust stain, but no matter what the contents of the tank look like (new or after 15 gallons), the water always distills perfectly.

Works well
I've had this for 6 months now and no issues. The power button only works when the unit shuts down when there's no water left in the tank. This is a good malfunction for me :)With electric power switches you can't use a timer. This works with timers because it turns on with power line connection. It takes about 4 hours to fill and the water tastes good. The mystery bottle is citric acid for cleanup after a few runs. Vinegar works too but I like the powder better.Overall very happy with this.

This thing will change your life.
No more lugging water. This puts all that bottled stuff to shame. Easy to use and I feel better about not polluting. Every home should have one!
