She spins a great yarn: -)
I will start this by saying that a lot of post-apocalyptic or sci-fi books are not my thing. However, Ruby Dixon is one of about 2 0r 3 authors that I will buy these from. She spins a great yarn :-). So when I saw this one come up I immediately one-clicked and started reading the next day.Really enjoyed this book! Interesting characters and character development. This lady has a great imagination to come up with all the details and ideas in this book. I can totally imagine 'Fort Dallas' and the devastation that is described in the book.As always, the romance was good and the sex was hot! The heroine, Claudia, was a bit wishy-washy at times but I understood a bit of her inner conflict so I was okay with it in the end. Overall, I was totally taken with the story and cannot wait to read more in the series!Safe read - some possible triggers with other characters. No cheating, no OW/OM drama. Also condom free if that's your thing!

Steamy and Fun
I love post apocalyptic romances and I love Ruby Dixon but not so sure about Dragon romances. The series starts in a post apocalyptic world where dragons roam the skies burning cities and the people in them. A young women named Claudia is caught and captured by leaders in her make shift town for breaking one of their laws. She was outside their town's border trying to find food for her sisters. They decide as her punishment they are going to leave her in a building for a dragon. They heard rumors that a woman tamed a dragon in another town and they are using her to gather information and experiment. A huge dragon descends on Claudia but he doesn't hurt her and actually he is able to shift into a human like person with lust in his eyes. What works really well is the heroine, Claudia. She is funny, strong and loyal to her sisters. Her internal and external dialogue is cute and funny. Kael, the dragon/human) is sexy and possessive. What doesn't work so well for me is that he is a bit too basic or simple in his communication with Claudia. I do like a sexy barbarian like character but this was more " Me Tarzan You Jane" kind of communication. When Kael found Claudia he claimed her as his mate and that was really the extent of the romance. If you loved Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet Barbarian series you should give this one a try. Even though I didn't love this one, I look forward to the next book in the series because I do love the writing style of the author.

Great new World - exciting & fires the imagination. Interesting situation - read it too fast!
Great new world - interesting storyline based ~ on Fated Mate concept (altho that premise was a bit diluted later in book). I really had a hard time putting this down & found myself thinking over the 'world' after I read it - great imagery & fired the imagination! I was a bit impatient mid-book with the unrealistic thoughts & actions of the heroine - redundancy too. She didn't seem curious enough about dragonkind dynamics / life/ history or much of a problem-solver - which made her single dimensional & a bit disappointing for me.Also, I had a couple problems with the practical side of things: It never rains in Dallas? They build a 'nest' in a top floor with big gaping holes in the ceiling/roof & don't think about protecting the furniture she acquires from rain damage? Or she's only got tattered clothes at the end of the story but earlier noted how such large sections of Dallas were unsalvaged - finding all kinds of items to furnish the nest but no clothes from any dept or boutique stores? Months later is considering getting a tub - why not immediately? I imagine most of us could easily figure out how to rig a hose, tub & secondary water storage for the gray bathwater (flush toilet). Not to mention other foraging expeditions for camping gear - cooking items, food. Maybe that is all implied but I was left with the impression their living quarters & conditions were still very rough & that doesn't make sense to me - it sounded too temporary. However, after reading this for free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription, I went back & bought it (as I do for all of the IPB series). I will definitely be one of the first in line to buy sequels.

Pretty decent, lacked some worldbuilding, though.
So I liked it. it was definitely a different take on post-apocalyptic than I've read. It was gritty at points, a little gory, but it kind of lacked. . . characterization? I'm not sure. I liked the writing style, the pace, and the plot well enough, but some major plot points were left out and not really alluded to.So in this book, dimensions rip open and dragons pour out of the sky and wreak havoc on our world. We built little "Forts" and that's where humanity has hunkered down to live out their dying days. The dragons can only really kill other dragons - our weapons are pretty much useless against them. Which I liked. It was nice having an adversary we could not face. But WHY the dimensions rip open and dragons poured out is never answered or even given a little foreshadowing to. It left me sitting there going, "Uhm. But why?"Claudia is the heroine of this book, and I liked her decently enough. The only thing I didn't like is whenever she and her dragon boytoy got into a disagreement, he would promptly shut her up by distracting her with sex. Which is fine, but that seems enough to completely derail her mind from the serious things she's got on it, like how he really did force her to be his mate, how her friend and sister are in captivity, and how she doesn't have a whole lot of choices in the matter. Her dragon boytoy doesn't like to rehash any of this, so he just gets her into bed to keep her mind off of it and she's okay with that.It was weird to read it, but if that's the angle the writer was going for, then. . . I guess she hit it pretty alright?I dunno. The series was set up for more than one book, that was for certain, but I wish the author would have taken some more time to do some world-building.The dragons apparently lost all their memories and don't remember much besides their own names. So I wish we could have had some backstory on them. Not bad for a read, though.

Are all dragons cruel women-eaters?
I loved - still love - this book and I cannot believe that I haven't revised it yet! It's the first of a wonderful series, but has got its own happy ending as usual from Ruby Dixon. The story is in post apocalyptic Earth, but characters manage to be both strong and full of humor. To be read!

Fire in his blood
Great story. Kael and Claudia make a great couple. I liked the slow build of their relationship and how they eventually overcame their differences. Great ending too. Looking forward to the next book.
