This book is a modern, more encouraging book than the big blue one!
This book should be as important to recovering addicts as the big book. Every person in recovery should use it as a guide book on how it works. Mackenzie Phillips tells us, in her own voice, how to get and remain sober. For anyone who has been in and out of 12 step and treatment programs (such as myself) it shines a light on true recovery and HOPE. She doesn't sugar coat the process, it takes hard work. her honesty, humor and encouragement is invaluable. The book really pulls you in, and makes you laugh, cry and believe that it can work for you. For those of you who are not in recovery, it is an amazing journey, and may be of help to someone you know who is in excruciating pain and denial. Trust me, you DO know someone suffering in silence!

Hopeful Healing is fantastic!!
Hopeful Healing is fantastic!!! As someone who has struggled and rebuilt her life more than once, Mack is an inspiration! Her writing is raw, honest, and moving. I laughed and cried throughout the book and couldn't put it down- finished it in one sitting. This book offers not only insight, but gives those in recovery a hopeful foundation for healing themselves and building meaningful, beautiful lives. Grateful for Mackenzie and what she graciously offers and shares with the world!

READ FOR HOPEFUL HEALING
This is my first read thru of Hopeful Healing. I need to read the book again. There is a lot of information.I'am a recover drug addict and child of alcoholism. There's a lot of antidote's that I remember when I was in rehab. It is a great book to help you guide through recovery at any time.I recommend Hopeful Healing to those who want to recover.

Great guidebook for sobriety and well-being!
This is a brave, intelligent guide book for the newly sober, or even somebody who's been working with their sobriety for quite some time.I had depression and anxiety, and some food addiction issues, and this book helped me, too.

Will give you a bit to think about
This book is quasi-autobiography and quasi-self help so it depends what you are looking for. There are not a ton of exercises per say, but there is enough to think about. I did find myself writing about it and taking notes sometimes. The other book is referenced more than once but it didn't bother me that I hadn't read her first. You don't really need to.
