Photive Turntable White laqure OPEN BOX

First, I do not believe any of the 5-star reviews. I have a feeling these were written by the vendor. How could a turntable with internal speakers, at a $60 price point rate a “5?” I’ve had turntables by Crosley, Jorlai, Electrohome. Nothing at this price point with internal speakers rates a “5.”So why did I purchase this Photive turntable, given that I was certain that the existing 5-star reviews had to be fake?Mostly because it’s by Photive, and Electrohome is not currently producing these turntables. I had a Photive Cyren Bluetooth speaker, and although the volume was unimpressive, the sound quality was good. Warm. Nice sound separation.So how does this rate for sound quality in comparison to others I’ve owned? Definitely, the Electrohome I purchased several years ago (2016), was better quality. I’ve tried two different Crosley turntables around this price point and the sound was awful. So awful, in fact, that I tossed one of their portable briefcase-style turntables in the trash after playing the first record. The Jorlai was even worse. I’ll never buy anything by Crosley again, at any price point.Before I write more about sound quality, a few words about the build of this unit. The base of this unit is solid. The tone arm is definitely cheaper. It does not have an automatic return. However, when the record hits the end, the tone arm stops automatically and the unit emits a sound to let you know. The alert sounds this unit emits are nice. Not at all annoying.The look/design of the unit is fantastic. I chose the white. It has a low profile and a very clean, modern look.Volume is quite impressive. I have an 800sq foot apartment, and I can hear records easily at much less than maximum volume all over the apartment. In testing the unit, I actually find that the sound quality is better if the volume is above the midway mark, which is unusual for these types of units. Usually, the higher the volume, the greater the distortion. This might be slightly the case for treble, but when the volume is below the midpoint, the unit sounds a bit muffled.More on sound quality. Percussion tends to distort the most. Bass is present, clear, but certainly not thumping. There is some lack of sound clarity in the midrange. Vocals seem to have a noticeable echo. I am really into vocals, but did not find this issue problematic enough to prompt a return. This effect is more noticeable when vocals are layered.Is the sound “tinny?” A little. Instead of having the capacity to transfer vinyl to mp3, I would much rather the unit had a “tone” dial. Overall, though, these Photive speakers do have the warm quality I liked with the Photive Cyren.I’ve played vinyl from several decades, in several genres. Heavily electronic or synthesized music fares the worst, although is not unacceptable to me. I noticed this playing New Wave from the 80s.I also played a vinyl that I had a digital copy of to compare the sound quality and Bluetooth pairing. First, the unit was rapidly recognized by my iPhone 6, and paired almost instantly. To be frank though, I would not use this unit as a Bluetooth speaker. When comparing the same songs in vinyl vs Bluetooth, the sound on vinyl was clearly superior. Sound clarity was much, much better. So, if you really want a turntable like this one, that produces good quality sound in Bluetooth mode, this unit is not for you. Get yourself a decent stand-alone Bluetooth speaker. I have a UE Logitech that I love for Bluetooth. I think it’s much better than Bose Bluetooth speakers in quality.I spent way too much time reading reviews of these types of units. I’d love to be an audiophile, but that cuss money! The unit does come with RCA outputs, so could be connected to a receiver, although I don’t know if this would override the internal speakers. In looking at a huge number of turntables at this price point, I’ve read that some do, and some don’t.Despite nit being financially able to achieve the audiophile status old like-I made the right choice with this Photive. No regrets. In fact, overall, I’m impressed with the build and the sound quality. I defy anyone to do better for $60. I like collecting vinyl, so I’m really happy to find a unit like this one.

**I’d give 4.5 stars if it was an option!*As a musician and someone who just appreciates listening to music of various genres, it’s scary to realize that my hearing isn’t exactly great anymore. A friend suggested that I try records and I must admit that I “hear” my favorite albums better. I can’t really explain how—I’ll leave that to the sound engineers and scientists! But this is my first record player and it’s a nice little starter piece. I’ve only owned it about 5 weeks but I’ve been using it almost daily. It has nice sound and it’s simple and modern design blends well with my decor. I am very pleased with this so far.I must admit that it only dawned on me that this will eventually need a needle replacement. I’m wondering how I can go about ordering one when the time comes?

Awesome product. The sound out of this is exceptional. It looks great and it plays my old records with ease. Highly recommend.

The media could not be loaded.  I will not believe amazons reviews from now on. It does look nice and the instructions seemed more professionally written than most made in china turntables. But the belt was out of place — DOA. We fixed it just to discover that the sound is awful- no trebles

Great for us old folks that still have the old vinyl albums. Brings back a lot of memories.

I’ve got nothing to complain about with this. It looks nice and chic in my living room and it was easy to set up and start playing records right away while still having the option to hook it up to better speakers when I eventually get around to it.
