Whats advertised is NOT what your really going to get if you buy this.
This is advertised as listed but when you get it the directions are extremely vague and will NOT solve any problems you may have. And as for tech support its THERE IS NOTHING. Do NOT waist your money time and effort. As it WILL be all for nothing. And the worse thing about it there is virtually NO, NONE, absolutely NOTHING for security for the app for remote viewing of your cameras for when your on the go. Just anybody can download the app and see everything that's viewed by your security cameras if they are on your WiFi network.... Buy at your own risk..... And if you are the type of person that would buy this for your own security and protection and piece of mind this will ABSOLUTELY disappoint you and will make your home business or whatever you need it for LESS secure.!!UPDATE!!As of July 2019, This DVR finally locked me out of the system. I had a power failure at my home and the street I live on. And when I re-acquired power and the DVR fully booted up it showed a lock icon on each cam channel with a blank screen. So I tried to login to the DVR to see what was the ailment and it gave me a message saying "System Maintaining Contact the Installer" with the serial number of the DVR under the message. And did NOTHING ELSE and I AM THE INSTALLER. So I tried contacting the manufacturer for help and literally herd nothing back from them for days. Now luckily in the meantime I had contacted Amazon and Thank God and the whole wide world they were nice enough to listen to my problems with the product and Amazon actually made it right with me so it was not a total loss for me. Thank you very much Amazon Customer service. I could only give this company and product one star even though they don't even deserve one. However, if I could leave a review for Amazon Customer service I would give them 10 out of 5 stars because at least they helped me in a time of much frustration and madness. So the point of this updated review is that even though I have tried absolutely everything I could to fix the Canavis DVR they still ignored me and absolutely disappointed me as a customer but despite whatever you read that's good about that company its most likely a paid review by one of them or one out of a thousand people that bought their crappy products. Don't give them the benefit of the doubt cause it will BURN you in the end.

That stinking cloud
This is my second Canavis 16 ch dvr.The first one lasted about 3 days, then it would not log into it's cloud anymore. The dvr still functioned and recorded video, I just could not get to it from my smart phone or my PC's on the same network.I clicked the button on the Amazon screen, “get product support”.They called me and they had me delete and re-install the ap on my phone. That didn't work, of course.I called back and within about 10 minutes, they had another box on it's way to me.I received it the next day. I think I must have gotten a factory refurbished unit because there were some broken plastic tabs inside. Not a deal breaker. I installed my 2 TB HD and I plugged in my cameras and powered it up. It found my network and it's cloud right away. After 3 days the new one did the same thing. I could not access my cameras from my phone. I rebooted the dvr and it all works again. Now I have set it to reboot itself every morning at 4 AM.It rebooted at 4 AM and by 10 AM I could not see the cameras on my phone again. I emailed Amazon. They basically said sorry too bad. I emailed tech support at Canavis. I explained that the DVR keeps losing contact with it's cloud. The tech support person told me that I am confused and that none of their units need a cloud. After I calmed down I decided to keep it. If I reboot the box then it find's it's cloud again. I have a home automation system so I added a relay so I can cycle power to the dvr when I'm off site. That will work for me. I had the network connection going through a switch before the router. I ran a home run line from the router to the dvr, with no switch. We'll see if this helps.Overall I really like this dvr. It is very versatile and easy to use. The only think I don't like about it is that I am locked into their cloud and ap. I would prefer to just open ports on my router and use any ap I want, like the old days. But I think they are all like this now.UPDATE: Since I ran the network cable from the dvr straight to the router it has not lost it's cloud once. That was probably the problem, going through network switches.I also read about security vulnerabilities with these new dvr's but the only open ports I found are for real time video steaming and one I opened for html. I think they're ok but I'm not a security expert.

Worked good but did not last long
This was a great DVR when it was new but over time most of the digital or network connected cameras would drop out and sometimes come back in. some worse than others. The hardwired RF cameras always work, I thought it might be something wrong with my network so I completely upgraded the network and still had problems. I recently bought a new DVR and I no longer have any of these issues so I am under the assumption that this particular DVR went bad on the network connected camera side.

Mostly excellent. Just short of WOW!
I received the DVR. It was easy to set up.The software is excellent for the mobile android phone but the link for the browser is very slow. Why only make it available for IE? Edge, Chrome and Firefox are significantly faster, more secure products. I am still having trouble getting a good test for my gmail account. I followed all of the instructions for the server number and google security access. I'm not sure where to go from here and I need help. A chat function for the company would be helpful for simple and quick solution issues. An actual app for Windows would be even better.Overall, I accomplish what I wanted to do (except for the email alerts) so I am generally pleased. FYI...You came so close to Wowing me! Keep working on it.

Good replacement.
Works well. Make a good replacement for a basic CCTV dvr.
