Good reference
Good reference, many of the photos are poor but still good overall.

Great help
Small and easy to carry. Also has color pictures and text book like sections to help narrow down your searches by trekking you what to watch for in land formation. Even when I don't carry it with me searching, it's awesome to have at home as a comparison guide.

Pocket Pal for Rock Hounds
Great pocket guide with more information than I'm currently able to understand but as I'm reading through it I'm beginning to put the pieces together and I know this guide will help me in the field. The pictures are good.

Could be much better
I was quite disappointed in the quality of this book. In this day and age of digital photo processing the pictures were quite bland, not very detailed, and not very colorful. It would also be nice to see pictures of both the natural stone and polished/finished stones.

Rocks from the rockys.
Good read with lots of pictures (sorry, but when it comes to identifying rocks, a picture really is worth a thousand words!).

Dry and not user friendly. Seemed like i spent a lot of time thumbing back and forth trying to find the geographic location of the rocks i was looking for. Also, not complete as far as what can be found in Mt.

If your thinking of Canadian Rockies, don’t get this book! Thought this would include “Canadian and American Rockies” only listing American states nothing on Canada, also some hand drawn pictures of minerals not very helpful.
