BATTERIES DO NOT WORK ANYMORE! PLEASE READ!
This model is so old that most of the lithium batteries do not work anymore! I charged the dang thing and the battery was still dead. This was my second try/second purchase because I loved this light in the past. I contacted the company and the sales rep told me the same info I stated above. He was nice enough to let me ship this model to him and replaced it with their new model! DO NOT BUY....

What a great and outstanding light!
Really I didn't expected so much power for such a small light.Outsdanding rechargeable light, plus the intensity didm't vary throughout the use of the battery which was very good. In the night while on the road it looks like the light of a small motorcycle it is very powerful. Apart from this it also has some cool fast flashing modes and the range of the beam is broad enough to cover not only the center but the sides too so if you are riding in your local trail at night, this should certainly be good enough.

Does not function
This is the second time in the last few months this light won't function upon purchasing the item. It does not hold a charge. Fully charged lasts 10 minutes. I assume this is a manufacturing problem. This is at least my fourth light I have bought in the last 8 years. The light usually last a couple of years with use 3 times a week. The last 2 lights did not function as soon as I purchased them this year.

The Mount Sucks
The light is bright, the beam focused enough, and is good enough to see by, but the mount just... sucks. It's apparently impossible to get it tight enough so that it doesn't drop when you hit bumps. I do physical work for a living, so it's not like I am weak, I just can't get one... more... click... on the ratchet to engage so it won't do that. I constantly have to adjust the thing after hitting a few irregularities in the pavement. The charge time for the light is very long, something on the order of 6 hours. Not really an issue if you're at work or at home sleeping, but it's long enough that I've purchased a cheapie backup light so I can't get stranded.

Nice, if this is your primary light by sure ...
Nice, if this is your primary light by sure you're on top of your charging. The battery option (with rechargeable AAs) may be better if you're in a pinch.

Never going back to my 40 Lumen!
This is hands down the best USB bike light I have ever ridden with. I had been dragging my feet on replacing my old one and using a trashy 40 Lumen light that was barely brighter than the penlight I keep on me. I love the erratic blink on this; it really draws the eye.Totally worth it, especially for the price!

Great light. Useless Customer Service
This review is being written 2 years after initial purchase.Prior to the light no longer working, it was fantastic! It was plenty bright for my commutes in both the early morning dark and the afternoon sun. I loved it so much that I purchased an additional light to mount on my helmet to compliment the one on my handlebars. (My goal is to be seen and not get struck by a car.)Anyway, sometime after the first year, one of the lights went completely out and I relied on using just one headlight instead of two. A few months later, the second light went out. Neither of them hold a charge anymore.I contacted customer service and spoke to a Jon Bohaty. Emails went back and forth. I sent the requested receipt of purchase and photos of the lights. He was kind, but offered no help despite their lifetime warranty. Apparently they do not make these lights anymore and do not have parts to repair my lights. Their lack of parts shouldn’t be the problem of the consumer. I was instead given links to purchase some of their newer products.Sorry, but no thanks, NiteRider. I’ll try my luck elsewhere.

Bright, convenient
The Mako would double quite effectively as a rechargeable pocket torch. It's about 6 inches long and quite solidly built, with a rain-proof construction; I doubt it would survive full immersion, however, but it isn't designed for this anyway. Mounting it on a handlebar should be straightforward assuming the bar is narrow enough; it's a ratcheted plastic clip. Mine arrived charged from the package, and includes a short mini-USB cable for recharging it (this is the same connector as on e.g. Playstation3 controllers, or external USB hard disks). The light can unclip from the handlebar mounting bracket, and is simple to operate; one button-press at a time changes from full-power, to low, to a strobing flash, to off, and the power-button is illuminated when active (it also glows red when charging, and blue when charged). Additionally, two side vents flash small red LEDs on either side. The light itself is extremely bright on full power, still very bright on "low", and throws a solid white centre-spot, with a diffuse "halo" around it, so as well as throwing the beam some distance, it lights up the immediate surroundings too. It's probably not the most ergonomic of hand-torches, and the ability to disconnect the bracket is more for anti-theft purposes, but as a hand-torch it's very bright and easily recharged for lying around the home or the car. As an LED, its run-time is also fairly long on a single charge; several hours at a time. It's a little pricey for an LED torch, but you'll never need replacement batteries for it.

Just the ticket
It fits easily on the handlebar, is secure and gives off a bright light. The USB charger is a little short which means that I have to remember to look under my desk to unplug it before I leave work at the end of the day - other than that minor quibble, this is a good bit of kit.

Bright and easy to use
The light was packaged well and arrived on time. Installation was very easy. Batteries charge directly from mains, which is convenient. When low in charge, a light will indicate you need to recharge. I use it for an hour a day only, and it lasts 14 days between recharges. Good buy, will recommend

Decent
Handlebar mount isn't great for my mountain bike. Strong light though, without being too bright. Seems to last ages as well. If the mount was a better fit for my bike it'd get 5 all day long.
