Microscopic creatures, this book is well done with truly fascinating photos, so interesting!
Our kids love biology especially microbiology (we have a tardigrade fan in our home). I searched for months for a book that was appropriate for a nine year old including information on reproduction. That area of this book discusses the science with plants and humans and doesn't get into adult matters, simply egg fertilization, DNA and cellular division. This was the winner, after returning some other books that I did not think were appropriate that were over descriptive with unnecessary details (on copulation, etc). The kids didn't want to put this book down with all the amazing micro-creatures to ask more about. The photos are fascinating and the presentation of information is well done. We love the closeups! This book seems very thoughtfully and intentionally designed for readers interested in the microscopic world around us. Recommend.

Astonishingly Fascinating
Long time DK fan here, I currently own 35 DK titles. So it’s not a frivolous statement when I say DK may have out-done their self on this one. The micro photography is second to none, opening worlds unseen to the naked eye. Simply incredible. To say I get queasy looking at images of human medical surgery is an understatement. So if you’re a germ-a-phob (no judgment here), you’ll need to brace yourself should you decide to open the book. Some things are just creepy or what I don’t want to know, i.e. “Gut Communities” and “Living In Hair” are just two examples. Maybe that’s why they’re so small — So we don’t see them in our hair! Ever think of that? Now I just pretend they’re not there. The unbelievably cool part is it’s easy to see The Flower Of Life / Sacred Geometry in many of the images. Mind blown. If you only purchase one DK book in your life, I currently advise you make it this one. Its one of those books where no description will do it justice. You simply have to see it to really get the idea.

excellent
this book has excellent illustrations of micro life. it is my favorite books of smithsonian. It is a well made and heavy book. as i was opening the new book the binding made sounds. i didn't have that issue with smithsonian books but im not sure if that is normal. hope the binding will stay intact. high recommended.

One of the most visually stunning books I have ever seen - WOULD MAKE AND EXCELLENT GIFT!!
This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever owned. The visuals are beyond outstanding. The language is clear and concise and very easy to understand. This book will appeal to young and old alike. This book would make an excellent gift for a youngster because it could inspire him/her to pursue science-related studies. I wish I had had such a book when I was a youngster. However, I am thrilled to have it as an adult!I will tell you that on my iPad Air 2, the digital version is a tiny bit glitchy. The pages hesitate a little as they "turn." However, my device is pretty old, so that certainly could be a factor. If you do decide to buy this book as a gift, get the hard bound. It will make a handsome and very special gift. There is no two ways about it: This book was worth every penny I paid for it. You can’t go wrong with this book!!!
